Ian Smith
Ian practiced as a solicitor in London from 1995 and was a solicitor advocate until his call to the Bar in 2003. Ian is a commercial litigator, whose practice encompasses complex and high value cases often with an international dimension. He is a specialist in civil court fraud litigation, asset recovery (both civil and criminal courts) and anti-money laundering law.
Ian is the lead editor and co-author of the practitioners' looseleaf text Smith, Owen & Bodnar on Asset Recovery: Criminal Confiscation and Civil Recovery, published by Oxford University Press. Ian is a regular speaker at conferences and writer in the legal press. He will shortly become the International Secretary of the Proceeds of Crime Lawyers’ Association. He is a former founder-committee member of the Young Fraud Lawyers Association and a former secretary of the European Criminal Bar Association.
The common denominator in most of Ian's cases is misconduct or fraud. Many of his cases do not surface into the public domain. Those that do are usually in the High Court.
